Brentwood Advisory Group is pleased to announce another significant expansion of our group membership. Recent additions include Martin Swarbrick and Alan Turovlin. The Brentwood team has expanded to thirteen members focused on providing a broad array of board of director and executive-level support services to our clients.
Martin Swarbrick is an experienced Chief Executive Officer, Strategic Advisor and Corporate Director who has led large global organizations and mid-sized private companies in high technology, engineering and manufacturing in the U.S. and Europe. His strategic acumen and deep grounding in the disciplines of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award have enabled him to successfully transform business models, operating processes and organizational structures that increase stakeholder value in periods of stagnation, growth, and market upheaval. Following his 1979 graduation from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland with degrees in Engineering and Mathematics, Martin began his career with GE. In 1986 he was recruited by Kodak to lead Verbatim operations in Europe, a global technology company that produced highly engineered products for Microsoft and other market leaders. He began his career with Motorola’s Commercial, Government, and Industrial Solutions Sector (CGISS) in 1990 as VP and General Manager of a Greenfield operation that grew quickly under his leadership. He continued with Motorola until 2007 during which time he implemented a rigorous global operations framework based on the Baldrige criteria that impacted 14K employees in 21 facilities and businesses serving 27 million users in 170 countries around the world. In 2007 he was recruited to Bison Gear and Engineering Corporation, a private family engineering and manufacturing company, where he served as President and CEO. Martin serves on several manufacturing and software/technology boards and has had ownership in small manufacturing and service companies in the US and Europe. He is Chairman of the Management Association of Illinois and a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.
Alan Turovlin is a seasoned IT executive with extensive credentials in finance & accounting and cyber risk assessment/remediation. After working in many companies as a KPMG partner, a private equity executive, and a corporate executive, Alan knows what it takes to affect change in organizations. Fortune 500s, startups, distressed companies or their residual assets, and government institutions benefit from his ability to identify key issues quickly and implement appropriate solutions. He spans five industries (consumer products, manufacturing, telecommunications, high technology, and entertainment) and three regions (USA, Europe, and Japan). Alan excels in six areas: (1) ROI of “IT spend” throughout an organization; (2) CapEx vs. OpEx decision-making; (3) Cloud solutions; (4) Maximizing enterprise application performance; (5) Interim management; and (6) Cybersecurity and board governance. Alan is an “IT guy with finance credentials.” He earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance from VA Tech and two master’s degrees in Accounting and Public Financial Management, from the American University. He is currently a candidate for a doctorate in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. Alan is a certified public accountant (CPA) and a certified global management accountant (CGMA); he also holds a CERT certificate in Cyber Security from the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute.
